Anetta Mona Chişa – What the fuck are you staring at !?

What the fuck are you staring at !? is a film work realised by artist Anetta Mona Chişa and presented for a month – 20 June to 20 July 2007, within the project Spaţiul Public Bucureşti | Public Art Bucharest 2007. The film will run at Cityplex cinema Bucharest and on more than 200 outdoor and indoor digital screens in the city. Varying in length between 10 and 40 seconds, and spread around the city, the clip will confront the viewer with the image of a woman who is reacting to visual aggression, thus addressing the potentially insistent gaze of casual passers-by or direct public. Distributed together with the commercials and trailers at the beginning of each movie in the cinema, and on screens which are used exclusively for advertising, in the city, What the fuck are you staring at !? does not select its public but counts on its randomness, with the aim of creating a situation of disruption and reflection.

Anetta Mona Chişa was born in 1975 in Romania and lives in Prague. Since 2000 she is working in collaboration with Lucia Tkáčová, the two artists challenging in their projects the existing power structures and hierarchies.

The launching of the project What the fuck are you staring at !? takes place on the 20th of June at Cityplex, Şos. Olteniţei nr. 2, inside City Mall – 3rd floor, sector 4, Bucureşti. Opening speeches will be addressed by Sabine Hentzsch, director of Goethe-Institut Bukarest, Marius Babias, curator of the project, Anetta Mona Chişa, artist, and Raluca Eneşel, marketing director Cityplex Bucharest.

Alongside Cityplex, the project is developed in collaboration with Media Advertising and Monopoly Media. A list of all the venues where the video is shown on digital screens is available on the website www.spatiul-public.ro.

With the occasion of the project there will be also launched the publication-DVD Dialectis of Subjection #4, produced by Anetta Mona Chişa and Lucia Tkáčová as part of the artists’ books series within Spaţiul Public Bucureşti | Public Art Bucharest 2007.
