Daniela Catona, born in 1967 in Timişoara, studied Visual Arts in Cluj-Napoca and is currently lecturer at the Arts Faculty, West University Timişoara, and writing a PhD thesis, within the same University, on the subject of anthropomorphist presence/representation in performance and cyberspace. She is a member of FORMAT foundation and administrator of nettime-ro mailing list.
Eduard Constantin, born in 1977 in Ploieşti, is a visual artist based in Bucharest and Belgium. Since 2003 he is co-editor and designer for the web magazine e-cart, and since 2005 he is founding member of E-cart.ro Association.
Mădălin Geană, born in 1981 in Ploieşti, is an IT engineer based in Bucharest. He works at the Managed Services department of S&T Romania since 2002. Since 2003 he is web administrator and technical advisor for the web magazine e-cart, and he is one of the founding members of E-cart.ro Association.
Dilmana Iordanova, born in 1975 in Vidin, and Mihaela Kavdanska, born in 1976 in Blagoevgrad are Bulgarian cross-media artists who live and work in Bucharest since 1994. In the last years they have activated on the Romanian VJ-ing scene as VJ Dilmana and VJ Mika or together, known as KOTKI Visuals. In 2004 they founded the AVmotional Festival - the first Romanian Gathering for audio-visual projects, which became AVmotional Platform for Audio-Visual Projects in 2006.
Matze [Cristian Stanciu], born in 1968 in Bucharest, is one of the old members of the electronic Romanian scene. He started to work as radio producer and DJ at radio Nova22 in 1992. In 1993 he was audio-producer at radio Free Europe. He is co-founder of Yama Studios in 1996, one of the top audio production studios in Romania. Together with Electric Brother and DJ Vasile he formed a band called NSK in 1998. Cristian Stanciu also co-founded Blanos Distruzos in 2001, Aievea in 2002 and Shukar Collective in 2004. In the last two years he worked at the Shukar Collective project live shows in the European tour of the group. He is currently the producer of Zona Libera, a radio show at radio Guerrilla, in Bucharest.
Valentin Panduru, born in 1976 in Bucharest, currently works as studio manager at BBC Romania and he is running Alternativ Association, a freshly founded NGO. He worked as a reporter and editor for many radio stations in Bucharest, such as Delta RFI, Uni-Plus, Total, Radio Europa Libera, Europa FM. He initiated the internet platform alternativ.ro in 2004, and the online radio Alternativ in 2006.
Joanne Richardson, born in Bucharest, grew up in New York, and is currently living in Cluj and Berlin. She is an author of essays on social movements, post-communism, immaterial labor, copyleft, tactical media, the history of the avant-gardes, and experimental film & video in Eastern Europe. She is founder of D Media in Romania, an NGO for the production and dissemination of digital culture. She is editor of Subsol webzine, and of two books, Anarchitexts: Voices from the Global Digital Resistance (Autonomedia Press, NY, 2003) and Geert Lovink: Cultura Digitala (Idea, Cluj, 2004). She is currently completing a book about the mythologies of the net.
Florian Schneider, born in 1967 in Munich is a filmmaker and writer, based in Munich. Over the past ten years he has been involved in a wide range of projects that deal with the implications of postmodern border regimes on both theoretical and practical level. He is one of the initiators of the campaign KEIN MENSCH IST ILLEGAL (no one is illegal) at documenta X in 1997 and subsequent projects such as the "noborder network" and the online-platform KEIN.ORG. Most recently he curated the multimedia performance project "DICTIONARY OF WAR" and "SUMMIT - non-aligned initiatives in education culture" (with Irit Rogoff). Currently he is working on IMAGINARY PROPERTY, a series of texts, films and video installations researching the question: "What does it mean to own an image?" Since 2006 he teaches art theory at the art academy KIT in Trondheim (Norway). He is a member of the PDH programme "research architecture" at Goldsmiths College, London.
István Szakáts, born in 1968, is a new media artist and film director, living in Cluj. He holds a university degree in Fine Arts (2003) and another in Computer Sciences (1992). He teaches disciplines related to digital culture at the Cinema, Media and Television Department of the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj. István Szakáts has directed and edited over 200 short films, TV productions and media art projects. He is founding member and president of the AltArt Foundation.
Rariţa Szakáts, born in 1975, works as arts manager and cultural policymaker in Cluj. She graduated the University of Arts and Design in Cluj, Romania (2003) and holds a second BA in Journalism at Babes Bolyai University Cluj, Romania (1997). During the past ten years she worked in fields such as democracy and minority rights, media and culture in different nongovernmental organizations: AltArt Foundation, Ethnocultural Diversity Resource Center, Soros Foundation for an Open Society Romania. Rariţa Szakats is part of the AltArt creative team and the executive director of the foundation.
Tim Wolff, born in 1976 in Dumbrăveni (Elisabethstadt), lives in Munich since 1990. In 2006 he got his diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, which he attended as a student of Olaf Metzel. He works as a visual artist, musician and DJ, approaching urban and social motion-sequences, which he turns through the cut and re-composition into rhythmic portraits of places or people.

AltArt is a foundation based in Cluj, aiming to contribute to the development of digital culture in Romania and to promote initiatives of research and development in the field of intersection between art and technology. Among the projects which it carried out are: aniMOTION, a project of advocacy for animation as a form of art, Adult Learning in Digital Arts, a research project aiming to broaden education in digital arts, or Binar – The Centre for Digital Culture, the first space dedicated to generating debates and resources on digital culture in Romania.

Alternativ.ro functioned since 2004 as a website promoting cultural events which were not so visible in the classical press, such as students’ exhibitions, contemporary dance, workshops, electronic music festivals, etc. Since 2006 Alternativ.ro means also an online radio, broadcasting musical shows, cultural talks, or live concerts and mix sessions from clubs. Starting with June 2007, Alternativ functions as an NGO, Asociaţia Alternativ.

AVmotional is a structure meant to present, exchange and promote outstanding Romanian and international productions in the field of the new electronic music, audiovisual performance, VJ-ing and interactive new media installations. AVmotional started in 2004 as the first Romanian gathering dedicated to audio-visual scene. The first AVmotional DVD includes 28 live performances from AVmotional 01 & 02, with over 50 Romanian and international artists performing live and audio files of more than 15 hours of live electronic music recorded at the festival. AVmotional 03 took place in November 2006 in Bucharest and in 2007 it set out to continue providing a PLATFORM for the interaction of visual artists passionate about music and experiment with electronic musicians interested in cross-media art.

D Media Association is an NGO in Cluj working in the intersection between socially engaged art and new information technologies. Previous projects have included conferences, roundtables, technical workshops, screenings, concerts, as well as video production projects with local teenagers (Real Fictions 2004-2005) and international partners (Made in Italy 2005-2006, Commonplaces of Transition 2007-2008).

E-cart.ro is an NGO founded in 2006 and aiming at supporting independent initiatives in contemporary art in Romania and encouraging collaboration as a way of strengthening the non-profit structures in a context in which sustained institutional support is still missing. E-cart.ro publishes the online art magazine e-cart (founded in 2003), creates websites for other projects, edits publications and organizes projects with an educational focus, or which help creating networks and frames of critical thinking for Romanian artists.

KEIN.ORG is a collaborative working environment that offers a wide range of internet services to activists and artists from across the globe. It operates on a strictly non-commercial, open source and self-organized basis. KEIN.ORG started in 1997 at documenta X with the launch of the "no one is illegal" campaign website which was back then hosted by the "contrast.org" server. Soon its own server was set up and a networking infrastructure was built, offered to various local anti-racist, anti-fascists activist groups and migrant self-organizations. Since 1998 KEIN.ORG has been designed, developed and administrated by alternating teams of autodidacts. After ten years of existence, it runs ten servers situated at various locations in Europe, hosts more than 500 websites, about 200 content management systems and numerous mailing-lists and email-accounts. Among the most popular sites are DICTIONARY OF WAR, MAKEWORLDS, the multi-user blog ROUNDTABLE of the Research Architecture Institute at Goldsmiths College, the peer-to-peer video syndication network V2V or the internet platform D-A-S-H.
